LED street lights are modern lighting devices used to illuminate roads, streets and alleys. LED luminaires have a different and more complex structure than traditional luminaires. Are you wondering what is included in an LED street light?

There is an LED module on the light-emitting front surface of the LED street light. This module contains a large number of high-power LEDs. The electrical connection between the LEDs is provided by the printed circuit board to which the LEDs are connected. The printed circuit board is made of aluminum material due to its high heat transfer performance.

There are optic lenses on the LED module to control the light distribution. Asymmetric lenses are generally preferred in luminaires used for street lighting. The asymmetric lens serves to distribute the light in accordance with the road surface, that is, horizontally wide and vertically narrow. In this way, it becomes possible to increase the distance between the poles in the road lighting project.

The LED module is mounted on the luminaire body with the help of screws. Thermal paste is used to perfect the thermal conductivity between the LED module and the case. As the LEDs work, they heat up and this heat is transmitted to the aluminum circuit board. The heat on the aluminum circuit board is transferred to the heatsink inside the luminaire or to the luminaire body that acts as a heatsink. In this way, the heat generated on the LEDs is removed and the LEDs are provided with a long life.

In the section below the light source is the LED driver used to drive the LEDs at the appropriate voltage and current. The LED driver converts the AC (alternating current) mains voltage to DC (direct current) and stabilizes the output current. The electrical connection to the LED driver is protected by a fuse. This fuse is located in the same compartment as the LED driver. Connection terminals are used to connect the external power cable to the fuse and the LED driver.

Some professional products may have a light sensor or a motion sensor. In this way, the on/off status or brightness of the light can be controlled automatically. Some products may have a NEMA socket, which has become a standard for lighting control systems. With the help of the NEMA socket, the electrical connection between the luminaire and the control system can be easily provided.
