Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality Organization (SASO) is the technical state body that manages standards, metrology and quality related tasks in Saudi Arabia. SASO Certificate, is a mandatory certificate of conformity for products to enter the Saudi Arabia market.

SASO was established in Saudi Arabia in 1972 and started its operations. The main purpose of SASO is to protect the consumer by raising the standards and quality of products and services. SASO’s responsibilities focus on designing and approving national standards for products and services.

All countries require that goods entering the country market meet certain standards in terms of safety, quality, health and the environment. In this context, some tests are carried out for the products to be introduced into the country. However, countries with low technological infrastructure do not have sufficient opportunities to test and inspect imported goods. These countries use third-party agencies to perform relevant tests and provide certification services.

Saudi Arabia is one of the examples that bases the product acceptance process on third party agencies. Products sent to Saudi Arabia cannot pass through customs if they do not have the SASO Certificate. If it is desired to export to Saudi Arabia, SASO Certificate must be obtained for the products.

SASO Certificate shows that the product has been tested, inspected and meets Saudi Arabia’s quality and safety standards. SASO Certificate acts as a passport for products to enter the Saudi Arabian market.

The fact that a product has a SASO Certificate does not mean that it will not be inspected by customs officials. Customs officials always reserve the right to perform additional inspections and test procedures when the product enters the country.

SASO has launched the system called SABER as of 2020 and started to apply the application processes regarding the certificates of conformity through this system.

As stated above, the SASO Certificate can be obtained from authorized independent organizations. Some third-party service provider can take on the SASO certificate are listed below. You can contact these organizations to get detailed information about certification and testing processes and to get a price quote.
