2021 brings new features to our living spaces. All are new, flashy, and trendy. Neutral designs in gray, beige, wood tones, eclectic designs, and luxurious creations are trends to be included in our lighting solutions this year.
Human-centric lighting design is the leading feature in lighting in recent years. However, it is even more crucial as we have to stay inside for long hours due to health related restrictions in 2020 and 2021.
Human-centered lighting is to create lighting that imitates daylight which stimulates our body functions. It improves human performance, comfort, health, and well-being. Today it is a necessity to use individually adjustable lighting solutions in addition to human-centric design in our offices, homes, hotels, or educational facilities.
The intelligent control and lighting schemes will allow spaces to enhance circadian rhythms and provide more productive private environments.
Sustainable, eco-friendly, green lighting, however you describe it, putting the environment health and tour planet resources protection first, is a trend that will be relevant for many years to come. We will use more and more natural light,sunlight transportation systems, and energy-efficient light sources to save energy and reduce light pollution.
Minimalism and simplicity of shape is a continuous trend that is practical and also pleasant.
Geometric shapes and minimalist aesthetics coming alive again years after the founding of Bauhaus. This trend not only avoids unnecessary details in our lighting scheme. It also can be achieved on a reasonable budget without detracting the overall ambiance.
Ecomix is another 2021 trend where designers use natural materials for their creations. Wood, rope, burlap, twine, or paper will be used alone or in a combination.
Globes, already a current trend, will take their place in 2021 thanks to their popularity. Depending on their area of use, globe lamps will appear large or small, pendant or table lamps, transparent, translucent, or opaque.
Brass continues to be at the top. It creates a warmer ambient when we use it in our decoration and lighting fixtures. Especially with Scandinavian style brass matches perfectly with wood.
Smoked glass. Glass is a favorite of designers from time to time. This year we talk about a particular type of glass. Beautiful smoked glass now is back on chandeliers or table lamps to create cozy spaces.
Vintage compositions, fixtures made of alloy and metals, brass models, gold textures, and aged surfaces will be preferred in 2021.
In addition to the above trends for 2021, of course, designers will develop new styles and products in line with their projects, needs and desires.
However, today and in the future, sustainability and human-centered lighting issues will continue to play an important role in our design.
After Notre Dame de Sion French High School, Ayşe Dilay Özkiper continued her education at the Istanbul Technical University and has been graduated as an Architect. She also graduated from her MBA at the Istanbul University Institute of Business Economics. She attended various workshops, formations, and schoolings on lighting design and technique.
