Light + Building, which is expected to visit more than 200 thousand people from all over the world, takes place in Frankfurt, the fifth largest city of Germany between 8-13 March 2020. 2,577 companies, 393 of whom are from China, are exhibitors at the fair. Could the coronavirus outbreak that originated in China and frighten the world be a threat to the biggest meeting of the lighting industry, Light + Building?

Many airlines, including British Airways, Lufthansa, American Airlines, Air Canada and Turkish Airlines, have stopped flights to China due to the coronavirus, which killed more than 700 people in China. Despite all these measures, the outbreak could not be prevented from spreading out of China. More than 270 cases were seen outside the Chinese borders due to the virus spreading across 24 countries.

There is an uncertain period for China now. This causes foreigners to worry more.

With less than 30 days to start, Light + Building is recognized as the largest meeting event for the lighting industry. Companies from all over the world open the booth at the fair and have the opportunity to introduce their products to hundreds of thousands of visitors. However, guests from China are among the exhibitors and visitors. This rightfully worries thousands of people who will visit the fair.

In the survey conducted on social media, “Do you think the coronavirus outbreak in China is a threat to the Light + Building fair, which will be held in Frankfurt with the participation of 393 Chinese companies?” question was directed to participants. 76 percent of respondents say they see it as a threat. This may cause the number of exhibitors and visitors to decrease significantly.

Airline companies halting flights and suspending countries’ visa transactions may prevent 393 Chinese companies from participating in the fair. Tens of thousands of people may not be able to visit the fair due to these extreme measures.

Messe Frankfurt, the organizer of Light + Building, states that the necessary precautions were taken for the event and that there was no danger.

“…Messe Frankfurt, the organizer of Light + Building, states that the necessary precautions were taken for the event and that there was no danger….”

It is incredible what people reach to say by money..
    “No danger”, germans say.
Virus needs 14 days to start activation. One infected person could visit exhibition with no symptoms one week in Germany, come back to China and develop rest of the process, but virus has been shared yet.
Where is the old clever Germany nation?????
That exhibition must be cancelled and protect european people. You cannot bend thounsands of people in a reduced area during one week taking into account existing conditions regardless whatever money we mean…

I understand the risk but if it is true that Light & Building should be cancelled, then all situations where there is an assembly of people/tourists (museums, stadiums, etc.)?

Virus needs 27 days to start activation according to the new updates and look what happened in Italy 2020-02-23. I dont agree the doctors comment from the Light and Building that it’s “low risk” get infection from Coronavirus.
